Calling all enthusiasts of astrology and Amy Poehler. The successful and beloved entertainer has given us some remarkably memorable roles across movies and television, such as Parks & Recreation, Inside Out (2015), Mean Girls (2004), and Wine Country, just to name a few. But we are taking those famous Poehler roles a step further and connecting the behaviors to the exact zodiac sign that best represents her. Ever wonder who the Leslie Knope’s, the Abby’s, and the Mrs. George’s of the world are? Wonder no more because we are breaking it down for you below.
Aries: Leslie Knope From Parks & Recreation
Photo: NBC
(March 21 – April 19)
Aries are highly ambitious and natural-born leaders. They are energized pioneers and want to leave their fingerprints on the world. It’s no wonder that Pawnee, Indiana’s thirstiest local politician would be an Aries.
From the pilot to the final season, nothing stops Leslie Knope from trying to make her mark in the world. She channels all of her enthusiasm and can-do spirit no matter what hilarious hijinks get in her way.
Aries are self-starters – but they also can lead their troops into combat. True to form, over the course of the series, Leslie brings together a loyal team – often a collection of diametrically opposed personalities and philosophies – to help her achieve her political goals.
Taurus: Abby From Wine Country
Photo: Netflix
(April 20 – May 20)
A Taurus is the master builder-producer. Taurses get things done. They are practical and have a can-do attitude. Like their symbol, the bull, they can be stubborn at times. They also love their creature comforts.
In Netflix’s Wine Country, Abby is a total Taurus. While trying to micromanage fun, she gets bent out of shape when people ignore the agenda – which could be due to the fact that she’s repressed some of her passion. But the luxe and comfortable trip is a true Taurus indulgement. Because a Taurus, in addition to being diligent, is a creature of comforts and the most sensual sign of the zodiac. Could this be why she’s one of the only one of her gal pals to hook up?
Gemini: Gob’s Wife From Arrested Development
Photo: FOX
(May 21 – June 20)
Like their symbols, the twins, suggest, Geminis have two or more personalities. Geminis change faster than the weather. They have complex interests and love new experiences and information.
Gob’s Wife is a clear-cut Gemini. In her time on the show, she is drawn to wild and dangerous pranks but also enlists in the disciplined armed forces. She marries Gob but also has feelings for Tobias Fünke (David Cross). Her wanderlust is also textbook Gemini behavior. She seeks adventure and travel. She pursues her maritime business ideas and then travels with the army. She’s a woman of many faces.
Cancer: Susie From Wet Hot American Summer
Photo: USA Films
(June 21 – July 22)
The sign of Cancer is the crab. Like the crab, Cancers have a hard impenetrable armor and a soft vulnerable inside. They are also likely to cling or pinch when they feel threatened. They have strong emotions and are natural nurturers who make great parents and caretakers.
Susie, while an emotionally volatile actor, is still able to be super nurturing to the campers at Camp Firewood. She clings like a crab to a misguided relationship with boyfriend Ben (Bradley Cooper). It’s not unheard of for her to have an over-the-top emotional outburst. In Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later, Susie becomes a Hollywood producer. It’s no wonder she abandons acting for producing, as Cancers are renowned for their skills with money and saving.
Leo: Mrs. George From Mean Girls
Photo: Paramount Pictures
(July 23 – August 22)
Leos are great with fashion and interior design. They bring dazzling drama and overwhelming generosity. And most importantly, Leos never lose touch with their inner child – and that sums up the outrageously youth-obsessed Mrs. George.
No one is more attached to youth than cougar caretaker Mrs. George. She’s obsessed with still appearing young, and as a result is overly generous with her teen daughter Regina (Rachel McAdams) and the Plastics. She gives Regina everything, including her own bedroom. She also keeps an impeccable home and has a real flair for design. After all, she even creates a prom-worthy back brace. And in true Leo fashion, Mrs. George also wears her heart on her sleeve – even if that heart is covered by an implant that’s being gnawed on by her chihuahua.
Virgo: Joy From Inside Out
Photo: Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
(August 23 – September 22)
Virgos are highly detailed and organized. Like their symbol, the virgin, they can appear sweet and innocent. But underneath their sweet demeanor is an agile mind that’s always working. They are perfectionists, are often critical, and have a strong affinity for health and wellness.
Joy has total Virgo vibes. She’s got a perpetually jovial demeanor, but that doesn’t stop her from controlling Riley’s emotions a bit too much. She’s a big-picture thinker who, in her heart, only wants the best for Riley – even if that means ignoring Sadness (Phyllis Smith).
Joy focuses on what she thinks Riley needs. Luckily, Joy has all of Riley’s best interests at heart and keeps her active, eating healthy, and Joy-ful.
Libra: Hillary Clinton From Saturday Night Live
Photo: NBC
(September 23 – October 22)
Libra is symbolized by the scales of justice. Libras are drawn to the law and are natural diplomats. Libras want things to happen their way, on their time – and they always look impeccable even after a draining day at work.
Poehler’s turn as former First Lady, Senator, and Secretary of State Hilary Clinton was a Saturday Night Live fan favorite. While poking fun at Clinton’s stiff demeanor, there were many nods to the unjust treatment of Clinton in the press. Poehler portrayed her as an over-the-top control freak, but still kept her pretty real. She was also a lovable foil to Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin. She was stern but focused on fairness, which truly is a Libra lifestyle choice.
Scorpio: Colby From Upright Citizens Brigade
Photo: Comedy Central
(October 23 – November 21)
Scorpios have an aura of power and mystery, and their outward demeanor may not always match their deep emotional and energetic intensity. They are one of the more wildly sensual signs, but keep it under a stiff conservative demeanor. They can also be secretive, vengeful, and manipulative.
Colby was one of a group of secret agents charged with monitoring and creating chaos. Poehler and her improv castmates (and founders of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater) played the agents. The enigmatic Colby was laser-focused, prone to anger, and kept her feelings tight to the chest. Just like a Scorpio. And she also struck just like the sign’s symbol – a scorpion. She was even credited with releasing the Pamela Anderson tape. Savage Scorpio!
Sagittarius: Maura Ellis From Sisters
Photo: Universal Pictures
(November 22 – December 21)
Sagittarians “tell it like it is.” They have the free-spirited heart of a traveler but often approach situations with an intense intellectualism. They are fascinated by other cultures and often pursue higher education.
On the surface, Maura Ellis may not seem like your typical Sagittarian. She does hold herself back a lot. But when she lets it out, she lets it out. A few times in Sisters, she breaks it down and shows her Sagittarian tendencies. She is frankly honest – as awkward as that often make things. She also traveled far from her family home to Atlanta. By the end of the film, she is in her full archer glory. Plus, her joyous party cheerleader vibe fits with the Archer’s optimistic disposition.
Capricorn: Bessie Higgenbottom From The Mighty B
Photo: Nickelodeon
(December 22 – January 19)
Capricorns are driven by long-term goals. They are hard-working and devoted to their family and friends as much as their personal goals. They are considered old souls but also have a wacky sense of humor.
Bessie Higgenbottom is the ultimate Capricorn. Her life’s mission is to collect every Honeybee badge and that mission drives her spirit. She’s also fully committed to being nice. Her policy is to give kindness and courtesy to everyone she knows. She is wise beyond her years and definitely gives old soul Capricorn energy.
Aquarius: Fairchild Van Waldenberg From Blades of Glory
Photo: Paramount Pictures
(January 20 – February 18)
Aquarians are known for their eccentricity in fashion and point of view. They can be a bit “out there” and march to the beat of their own drummer. They’re driven by social justice. They also have a secret competitive type-A streak.
Fairchild Van Waldenberg is Aquarius all the way. Her penchant for wearing outlandish figure skating fashion in and outside the rink shows she’s an Aquarius original. Her heavy competitive streak is another clue. And while her jealousy and motivation to keeping two banned skaters out of her division may not be politically noble, her commitment to her sport is nonetheless a warped form of social justice. In her own mind, anyway.
Pisces: Angie Ostrowski From Baby Mama
Photo: Universal Studios
(February 19 – March 20)
Pisceans can sometimes be out of touch with reality. That is because they’re led as much by their internal world as the real world. Despite their active fantasy life, their emotional intelligence gives them great compassion and incredible healing powers.
Angie, the titular Baby Mama, is a pure Pisces. She spends most of the movie in a world of her own creation. First she lies about being pregnant, then winds up actually pregnant. She sees the world from her own point of view and dresses the part – much to the dismay of clean-cut Kate (Tina Fey). She names her child Gwen Stefani. But in the end, her emotional support reveals itself, as she makes a genuinely close friend and even helps teach her how to be a mother.
