Unexplainable Disney Movie Moments That Fans Are Still Annoyed About

From nostalgic classics like Pinocchio to more modern releases like Frozen, Disney’s animated films are treasured staples that never fail to deliver the infamous mouse magic that fans know and love. These beloved animated features will always be cherished by fans for their captivating animation styles, heartwarming storylines, and completely lovable characters.

While fans, no matter how old they may get, will always adore Disney’s vast filmography, they definitely aren’t immune to pointing out a few problems they may have with some of Disney’s most classic films. In fact, Disney fans have begun to wonder why certain movie moments even exist.

As Disney lovers continue to question the logic behind their favorite animated films, here are the most baffling movie moments that ended up leaving fans with more questions than answers.

1. Pinocchio Drowning Makes No Sense

Pinocchio walks along the ocean floor to find Monstro the whale and gets gobbled up for his trouble. While inside the whale, Pinocchio and Geppetto make the creature open its mouth by starting a fire and begin rowing to safety. Monstro creates a massive wave that knocks them all to shore and drowns Pinocchio. This is minutes after the audience watches Pinocchio walk across the ocean floor with no problem whatsoever.

2. Chip’s Missing Brothers And Sisters

At one point during Beauty and the Beast, Mrs. Potts puts Chip away in the cupboard with his brothers and sisters, a set of nearly identical cups. It’s not clear how many cups are in the cupboard, but it looks like a lot. Therre are at least six in the frame with Chip, and an untold amount of cups and cutlery inside the castle – all of which he refers to as his brothers and sisters.

That’s all well and good, but it creates a major issue when Chip is turned back into a real boy following the Beast’s profession of love for Belle. Did all of Chip’s “brothers and sisters” become human again? And if so, where are they? Hopefully, they didn’t get stuck in the cupboard.

3. Olaf’s Act Of Love Should’ve Broken The Spell

After Elsa accidentally freezes Anna’s heart at the ice palace, it’s revealed that the only thing that can save Anna is an act of true love. No problem – Disney movies are chock-full of characters that perform selfless acts to save their friends and loved ones.

Anna is eventually saved by the love of the very sister who cursed her, but she’d already experienced an act of true love from Olaf. At one point, she’s freezing, literally, and he lights a fire and brings her closer to the flames even though they’re melting him. This selfless act of love should have freed Anna from the confines of the spell.

4. Please Explain Why Buzz Freezes

One of the main conceits in Toy Story is that Andy’s new toy, Buzz Lightyear, doesn’t think he’s a toy. He believes he’s an actual space ranger and Woody spends most of the movie trying to convince him that he’s a piece of molded plastic.

If Buzz really does think that he’s a person, then why does he freeze when people are around? Is it an innate act of an action figure? Or does he know the truth about himself and choose to ignore it? Over at Reddit, people have been debating this for years. Rather than simply deciding that it’s a major plot hole, they’ve posited the possibility that Buzz is instinctually freezing, or that it’s simply Space Command protocol to not engage new lifeforms.

5. Rewriting The Past For Aladdin

Before Aladdin realizes that all he needs to win over Jasmine is to be himself, he wishes to be a prince. Boom, no problem. Genie turns him into a prince. But what does that really mean? Does he just turn into a prince with a bunch of fancy clothes and followers? Or does Genie completely rewrite Aladdin’s life and turn him into real-deal royalty?

6. The RLS Legacy Defies The Laws Of Space

On their mission to find Treasure Planet, the RLS Legacy encounters a supernova that turns into a black hole. Thanks to a shockwave burst, the Legacy is able to fly out of the black hole and continue on its journey. Here’s the thing: No matter how much energy the ship encountered, it wouldn’t have been able to escape the gravitational pull of a black hole.

Even though things are kind of wonky in Treasure Planet (characters can breathe in outer space, for instance), that still doesn’t explain how they could survive a black hole. It’s a heavenly body that’s so strong, not even light can escape from it. Regardless of the physics of the universe, a spaceship shouldn’t be able to get out.

7. Jafar’s Hypnotic Staff Could’ve Been More Useful

Who needs a genie when you’ve got a hypnotic staff that makes people do whatever you want? Jafar, apparently. Throughout the film, he routinely hypnotizes the Sultan and Jasmine into doing what he wants, and while these hypnotic states don’t offer long-term effects, they do allow him to maintain sway within the kingdom.

If Jafar wants control of Agrabah, why not just have the Sultan put him in charge? The same goes for marrying Jasmine – it’s not a cool thing to do, but it’s something that he should be able to do with his staff. And if he the one thing he really wants is to have control of the lamp, then all he has to do is hypnotize Aladdin and tell the young man to hand it over.

8. Need The Origin Story For These Instruments

Who made all the cat-sized instruments the felines jam on in The Aristocats? Is there an instrument manufacturer out there who’s building 1/8-sized instruments for animals to play? Did one of the cats build the instruments themselves?

9. Spotting Food In The ‘Cars’ Universe

The cars in the Cars franchise survive on oil, water, and gasoline. Then why does Mater eat a giant ball of wasabi after mistaking it for a scoop of pistachio ice cream?

Many critics have this question, so hopefully the filmmakers will address it in following films.
